Iris

Greatest Song Ever: Iris

And I'd give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel the same somehow.
You're the closest heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.

And all I can taste is this moment,
And all I can breathe is your life,
And sooner or later it's over,
I just don't want to miss you tonight.

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming,
Or the moment of the truth in your lies.
When everything feels like the movies,
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive.

And I don't want the world to see me,
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.
I just want you to know who I am.

I have to say this is one of the greatest songs of the 90's era. The Goo Goo Dolls made this song for the film "City of Angels" featuring Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage as an angel. Iris was the longest number one chartings on Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. The song got it’s name by John Rezenik (guitar/vocalist) when he found Iris DeMent (American Song writer). Not that romantic as the song is of course. Iris spent 31 weeks on Irelands hits and at the 41st Grammy Awards Iris received nominations for “Record of the Year” and “Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.” This song was written from Nicolas Cage’s character view from the movie. If you really listen to the lyrics you can hear some of it means meanings from the movie. For example “And I’d give up forever to touch you” in the movie Nicolas Cage can’t touch her, because he’s an angel and hear it means he’d give up being an angel just to live a short mortal life with her (Meg Ryan). There’s no doubt Iris was one of the greatest songs of the 90’s.
