Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe--- what are the things that pop in to your head when you think of this woman? I can tell you I think she was beautiful, young, rich, a hard worker, and definitely an intelligent young woman.
Marilyn Monroe was born June 1, 1926 and died August 5, 1962. Her real name was Norma Jeane Mortenson but she was baptized as Norma Jeane Baker. She grew up in Los Angeles, California and lived in a foster home with parents as her mother was unable to take care of her. Her father divorced her mother before Marilyn was even born and was never really around her father so instead of taking his last name Mortenson she changed it to her mother’s last name which was Baker. At 9 years old she was placed in a foster home and from then on was moved around a lot. She married at a very young age so she wouldn’t go back to living in foster homes. She divorced him in 1946 and continued to pursue her career.
She was living with her in laws as her husband was a merchant marine when they were looking for models. At this time Marilyn was a brunette so she dyed her hair blonde and they loved it. She was offered a six month contract starting out at $125 per week for fox century from being discovered for modeling. And thus she changed her name because she was reminded by the actress Marilyn Miller so she took her grandfather’s last name Monroe as her surname so it was Marilyn Monroe. She started out in small roles and was assigned to go to New York where she met her agent Johnny Hyde and stared in hit roles. Hyde bought her a 7 year contract with Fox Century just before dying in Dec. 1950.
Marilyn attended California University to study art and on the side doing small roles in films. She then started getting noticed a lot and from then on played in many movies and even posed for play boy.
In later years Marilyn suffered from a miscarriage. She was often late and showed extreme behavior after that especially in a film directed by Wilder. Even though the film was nominated for five academy awards and she won for best actress. She then later divorced her second husband in January 1961 and in Feb. she checked herself in to the psych ward for 3 weeks which this then put a slow down to her career. She did more movies and even got to sing happy birthday to JFK. Marilyn died on August 5 in her home in Brentwood, California of an overdose. But the cause of her death still lays in question.
